Most of the time, these viruses do not infect people, but influenza viruses can spread back and forth between pigs and people.
Swine flu. It is Zoonotic, which means it can be passed from an animal to a human usually people who work with pigs get it often.
However, viruses are sneaky. They just mutate and change. They also have a cunning little trick called reassortment which basically involves two different virus strains affecting the same host cell and mixing up their genetic material to create a third strain. The Flu does this. This is part of the reason a new flu vaccine must be developed every single year ready for the winter Flu season.
What's likely happened in this case is that some Mexican who keeps pigs has caught a dose of Swine Flu and also has been affected with a human Flu strain. The two strains have mixed together to create a new strain that rather than passing from pig to pig it passes to human to human.
my buddy Juan f*** a pig in mexico because he couldnt get laid by the mexicans so he went to the local farm and paid the local farmer 20 bucks for some alone time with a pig but he had a flu at the time so after he f***ed a pig he said it was sneezing and i was like you better get yourself checked out and he was like nahhh man no way im fine...so he ended up going to the hospital and was being quarintine because they haven't seen anything like this so ever since last week my friend juan has been kept quarintine in a mexican hospital for starting a new flu by f***ing a pig...he porked a pig
