YES!!!
This is the latest from the Mayor of New York and other health people.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the illness so far had proven to be "a relatively minor annoyance."
City health officials say they have found few signs that the local outbreak of swine flu is spreading beyond a few pockets or getting more dangerous. The city has 50 cases, the most of any city in the United States.
Dr. Peter Palese, a leading flu researcher at New York's Mount Sinai Medical School, said the new virus appeared to be similar enough to other common flu strains that "we probably all have some type of immunity."
"There is no real reason to believe this is a more serious strain," he said.
Also Friday, an official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the new swine flu virus lacks the genetic traits that made the 1918 pandemic strain so deadly.
CDC flu chief Nancy Cox said the good news is "we do not see the markers for virulence that were seen in the 1918 virus." Nor does swine flu virus have the virulence traits found in the H5N1 strain of bird flu seen in recent years in Asia and other parts of the world, she said.

The key difference between H1N1 and other flu viruses is that H1N1 has never spread widely through humans, meaning that the population in general has a much weaker immunity to the virus, giving it a much greater potential to spread quickly. The media certainly loves to blow things out of proportion, but this constant reporting over the virus is good because it encourages people to practice proper hygiene and reduce the spread of the disease.

YES. my god, people are psycho... though i wish schools shut down for cases of the regular flu. we'd never get through a year. = )
but as far as i know, the only difference between the swine flu and the "regular" flu is that the first one is more contagious. and the symptoms are (possibly) accelerated.

No its not. As President Obama stated today:
"He said there are indications from Mexico that "relatively young, healthy people" have died rather than people whose immune systems are compromised, and "that's why we're taking it seriously."http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/05/01/swi...

at first i thought it was blown out of proportion which i think raising the level to level 5 was a bit drastic of stupid obama making people even more scared.
but it is a serious new strain of flu that NO ONE has ANY immunities to, so it is deadly.http://cdc.gov/h1n1flu/index.htm

yes i think it is. so far only 1 person has died from it and it was a baby from Mexico. From all those effected in the US and Mexico so far there is no serious deaths. I think SARS should have been treated more seriously.

F**K Yes.
Jesus christ, it's not like people don't die from normal flu. Everyone just needs to get over it and maybe tone up their personal hygiene for a few months.

No, it's not. It doesn't look bad now, but soon thousands will be infected and many people will start dying, even in the USA
