I'm more worried about navigating the airports and spending 9 hours on a plane with a couple hundred people in close quarters than being in London. Anybody have info on plane acquired illness? Can anybody help put my concerns into perspective?

Heck no! You have a better chance of getting it while in the U.S. They are going to be testing any planes leaving and going to the U.S. for the flu. Plus, it is no worse than the normal flu, just a different kind, which is why people are freaking out. If you are a person who is almost phobically scared of germs and everyday bacteria then you would probably be telling her no. This is going to be no bigger than Mad Cow Disease, remember that. What happened to it? All the hype and almost nothing. Same with the Bird flu and SARS. Don't be scared and cancel your trip, but as I said if you are phobically scared of everyday sicknesses or bacteria go for, because you will probably just be paranoid the entire trip and won't enjoy it. You probably have a 1/5000000000 chance of getting it.

You definitely increase your chances by traveling, merely due to the number of people you come in contact with. If you're healthy and have a strong immune system, there's no guarantees you won't get it, but the odds will be strongly in your favor. I'd say, if you have one of those "non-refundable" deals, then go; but if you have the opportunity to delay your trip, it certainly wouldn't hurt. Just make sure you wash your hands more than usual, and do the best you can to avoid coming in close contact/quarters with strangers (which certainly isn't the easiest to do planes).

i'd say cancel your trip if it's not absolutely important...you never know...better to be safe than sorry..if one infected person on that plane coughs or even breathes (which will most likely happen), it could easily spread. i read that you can be infected and the symptoms may start showing a week later. use common sense though, wash your hands before you eat, dont toouch your face, especially when you're outside somewhere.

No it is very similar to the normal flu. Wash your hands a lot and wear a mask if you are stupidly paranoid. Take multi-vitamins.

I'm all about being cautious. I would put it off until you know this outbreak is under control.
