An epidemic is within a confined region and a pandemic is global.

Epidemic occurs when new cases of a certain disease occur in a given human population, during a given period, substantially exceed what is "EXPECTED," based on recent experience, pandemic is an epidemic of infectious disease that spreads through populations across a large region; for instance a continent, or even worldwide for more info contact ahmadhashem41 at yahoo
If you wikipedia either of those terms there are very accurate desciptions of both. If you search "WHO" for "World Health Organization" you will have the charts and graphs, too.
It will explain to you in detail what's what - and what it means.
CDC is only so helpful - but trust me on the wiki. I read the whole thing myself just as confused the other day and now I understand it perfectly.
