I'm just interested in hearing what other people have to say about this issue. Do you think that this new flu has the potential to turn into a pandemic (something along the lines of the Spanish flu of 1918)?

According to the CDC and the World Health Organization, yes it is a possible; a very unfortunate circumstance that can do even more damage to our economy. Experts are worried that it could mutate, and that there could be more cases on the way. The good news is that everyone one of those cases in our country is recovering from it and being contained. Only one person has been hospitalized.
Mexico is a different ball game where over 100 people have already died, but that is probably because it's a developing country where living conditions are below par and a lot of people are poor and don't have access to good treatment. Just use common sense like, lots of hand washing and sanitizer, staying home from work and school if you think you have the flu, avoiding contact with sick people, and covering your mouth when you cough/sneeze. Also, avoid unnecessary travel to Mexico and to any states that have confirmed cases.
If people are actually recovering in our country, and Mexico is being contained, there's no reason to panic. Since measures are being taken right now, it's very unlikely that it will be the remake of 1918. It's only a matter of time.
