It looks as though the flu pandemic will reach us sooner or later. What should we be doing? Do we need to start wearing masks? Is there anything we can eat or drink which will build up our immunity? Will it help if we get lots of sleep so our bodies aren't run down or will we just catch it regardless if we come into close contact with someone who is unknowingly spreading the disease.

I'm not wearing a mask until I hear about someone in my area being infected. As far as immunity, most of the victims were healthy with strong immune systems. So far they just said wash your hands..basically.

If you are in the UK i wouldn't worry. The UK and france have the best stockpiles in the world to deal with any breakout using tamiflu and other broad spectrum drugs.

I think that washing your hands is going to be the major part and eating healthy to keep your immune system happy.
But i think that yes we could catch it regardless!(which is scary!)

Of course it won't, look at the evidence. 86 People have now died in Mexico, around 30-40 have been diagnosed in MEDCs and none have died. We have much better healthcare, and we have enough Tamiflu stockpiled for the whole country, compared to Mexicos stupid amount which stands at 1m doses, and for a country of 109m people, they have little or no cause to worry at all. You'll be fine.

YES! SAVE YOURSELF! Run north and you will find a train waiting for you! take it to Canada (Nothing happens to canadians, IDK why)become friends with the eskimos and join them hunting (just not pigs), fishing, and marry the chief's sister. 25 years later it should be safe BUT just in case work in a sweat shop in Minnesota.
STOP WORRYING ABOUT SWINE FLU!

Ensure you get the annual flu vaccine recommended by the government as it will protect you from the predicted strains of flu prevalent at that time and reduce the mutation of "super flu" virus. Good hand hygiene is important as is avoiding large crowds if you are feeling under the weather. Eating a good diet high in nutrients and vitamins and generally looking after yourself.

you can reduce your risk of infection with a few changes in your behavior. Wash your hands frequently, if you don't have soap and water, use hand sanitizer, do it hourly when in public. Face masks are not going to help, unless you wear a professional N-95 mask, you cannot stop a virus that way.
Do not touch your face at all, without first washing your hands...that is the primary mode of transmission, hand to mouth, or nose or eyes, the virus invades through the mucous membranes.
Avoid large crowds, wash after touching public surfaces like doors, counters, ATM keys.

The number of people killed by the latest flu outbreak in Mexico is about the same as the number killed by road accidents in Birmingham over the same period. It's a little early to panic that we're all going to be wiped out by flu or Brummie motorists.
The WHO exists to prevent another flu pandemic like the one in 1918. So far they've been successful. Every time there's a new strain of virus that spreads from pigs or chickens to humans, there's a chance of a pandemic and the WHO say so. So far, it hasn't happened.
Britain is actually fairly well prepared. We have stockpiles of anti-viral drugs from the last occasion we were warned of a pandemic. So don't panic and keep eating the fruit and veg.
