Okay, I know numerous questions are being asked about the swine flu, but hey I'm scared, alright? It's finally reached Philadelphia and I live in South Jersey. The flu is airbourne so there is a chance. |:
How could I protect myself from getting it? Is there nothing since it's airbourne, or can there be a way? I just don't want to catch it. Also, what are the symptons and what happens when infected?
THANK YOU.

this flu is NOT airborne, it is spread through contact and droplets. hand washing on an hourly basis is your best preventive, maintain a six foot personal space around you, avoid crowds, if you touch any public surface (door handles, shopping cart handles, atm buttons, money) wash immediately after handling such public surfaces. DO NOT touch your face at all without first washing your hands.
Symptoms are like any other flu, body aches, head aches, respiratory symptoms, fever greater than 101 and occasionally intestinal symptoms.

Ignoring the first person, I don't blame you for being afraid of swine flu. But remember, you can't always trust rumors that people spread. Listen to trusted news sites (Fox, NBC, etc.) for starters. And the only thing you can really do because it's a virus, not a disease, is treat it like any other cold. Wash your hands often, try to avoid touching your face, cover your mouth when you sneeze and cough, etc. I don't blame you for being worried, but don't get too worked up.

Prevention seems to be the best cure for swine flu as well as all types of influenza and even down to the common cold.
This can best be achieved by:
•Frequently washing your hands in warm soapy water.
•Avoid public places (especially in a region that the outbreak is in affect)
•Avoid travelling to places affected by the virus
•Avoid touching your eyes or nose once coming in contact with public utilities ie: shopping carts, payphones, money or other contaminated materials.
•Use an alcohol based hand sanitizer frequently especially after coming into contact with any of the above.
•Plenty of rest and a well balanced diet will go a long way to prevent any kind of infection.
As far as symptoms for swine flu, they seem to be much the same as experienced with a typical influenza strain.
