Are the common people in the Philippines currently talking about the swine flu pandemic?
And what steps are you seeing that the Philippine government & the residents are doing about this?

Well, I -am- freaking out about it, but my friend said that as long as you wash your hands often and keep healthy, this virus will never affect you.

Yes, as all of the people in this world are!
They are all working together, hand in hand, to control this epidemic!
No country can work alone, but needs full cooperation.

No. common people have lesser access to media and they are more worried about daily sustenance since there are lesser regular employment among the middle and lower strata of society.
The government has eliminated several thousands of swine somewhere in bulacan

Well I live in the US and my mom is freaking out about it because it's all over Kababayan LA news. But I asked my physiology teacher about it last night and he said there's nothing to worry about unless you have no access to any type of medical care. It's the flu, so all you have to do is make sure you are constantly keeping your hands clean and getting your daily intake of Vitamin C!

LOL!!
Our TV just broke so I am not so updated about the news...
What I can only say is that FIlipino media are just too lazy to look for pther news so they focus on one big issue then they slice that topic into smaller ones and make news out of it. The result, that becomes the headline for that day!!
take Trina Etong's case for example.
I think that the government are doing something about it. I heard that they are making campaigns to convince swine breeders to have their "pets" vaccinated and the ports and shores of the country are being guarded to avoid surrounding countries to smuggle those pigs!

We should be considering how this virus has spread worldwide in magnitude. However, I am not yet on the throes of paranoia. Still, I am hoping and praying that this virus will not reach us and create pandemonium in our country and among our people.
What is important is knowing that our government and health officials are taking necessary precautions and preparations for any eventuality. Just a matter of being vigilant and keeping tuned in to daily broadcasts or news about the swine virus/flu and knowing where to go just in case.

Nothing is being done in the Philippines.
I met with an American client about a week ago and he was sick with the flu, I caught it and it was miserable for a few days.
My wife and daughter caught it from me and they are miserable.
My daughter had a high fever (1 year old) for 2 days and it subsided.
We did take her to the doctor and she didn't run any tests to see if it was the Swine flu, but did give us a prescription to make things more bearable.
The reason our doctor didn't run tests is because she said she was afraid it might be the Swine flu and said she couldn't take the chance of running the risk of reporting it if it was.
Apparently, the tourism market here would suffer if such things were allowed to be reported.

only the gullible idiots who watches ABS CBN will be worried,....its just a Virus...it cant withstand sunlight,...goodnews is eating pork wont make you infected...filipinos are known to eat DOUBLE DEAD meat so bring it on...its much more lethal to drive on philippine roads than being infected by some lame media hyped virus...unless you are planning to have sex with a pig.

Of course they are talking about it after hearing bits of news from the media. The sad part about it is many among the common folks are misinformed about its causes. For example, they think eating pork causes the disease and OTC's can cure them. I think the government now should mount an all out effort to educate the people on ways to prevent its spread and calm them so as not to aggravate the situation.

No!
The main issue here in the Philippines is Manny Pacquiao's fight, followed by Jun Lozada's arrest and Daniel Smith the rapist being freed out of the prison by a collaboration of the US government and Arroyo.
Besides, the Philippine government is already full of swines infected with the flu there's no need to be worried.

The Filipino people, imploring the aid of the Divine Providence, must be worried about it and currently talking on this subject. I see the DOH Secretary appear on TV warning everyone and assures the public that they are doing everything they can to prepare for any eventuality.
My household, on the phone a while ago, says that a certain British boxer must have succumbed to the malady and might have infected our Manny Pacman Pacquiao.

This is just from what I understand. I could be wrong.
From what I've heard this is something that people are dying from in Mexico. Of course Mexico doesn't have top quality health and doesn't have sanitation. Because of the poor living conditions, poverty, the virus tends to excellerate.
Now this could be spread to the Philippines and may have a similar type of result as Mexico. I really don't know what the government or residents will do. For sure the residents will do NOTHING and everyone will just say BAHALA NA!!!! I mean Filipinos are hard headed and you really can't tell them much.
I do think that this is somewhat being blown out of proportion. I mean there are thousands of people who die from the flu every year. Also, Mexico's economy was collapsing and they were on the verge of a revolution in that country. So this may be a distraction by the media to draw attention away from Mexico's poor collapsing economy and possible revolution to focus on a virus. Also, with the economy the way it is, funny how a virus has taken so much attention away from unemployment, forclosed homes, and a slumping stock market.
Its also funny how Pharmaceutical and Health stocks have skyrocketed. Especially when you consider that most scientists believe that this virus was engineered in a lab.

for the poor people of manila, those who live in the slums, i think there are more important things to worry about like when are they to going to have their next meal.
for the rich and the working class, i think most responsible people in manila have by now recieved the yearly flu shot and the pneumonia shot (every 5 years). some people have air purifier installed in their homes. and filipinos are obsessed with being clean, so disinfectant gels are a good product to sell.
regarding the philippine government, hmmm... there is a thing regarding the philippine government that all filipinos know. when a project can earn money, or at least if the government officials can kick back some money from it, then the project will push through. but on the other hand, if the project needs funding, then it is considered a dead project, except if and only if the project can boost the image of a government official. regarding the pandemic? hmmm... it is not earning money, so i guess, the official that moves towards the prevention of this flu will likely to use this as his/ her campaign for the coming elections in 2010!

I have warned them earlier but you can't help their mentality. This is going to be full blown around the world. I won't be surprised if it will hit hard in the Philippines then they will cry out loud for conspiracy theory and blame the USA.
