Nothing. Same with Mad Cow outbreak. My son lived, and so did I. Get a grip on reality!

Wow, well babies are supposed to build up immune systems, so if it dies from swine flu, it wouldn't have survived in the wild. It's called natural selection. It's god's will.

This swine flu media thing is crazy, I'm treating my son the exact same way I treated him before all this nonsense hit the paper.
Good hygiene, clean water and food, and not taking him out while sick, that's what I do.

I don't let any strangers touch my 9 week old baby and I plan to stay at home with him while this pass, since I live in houston were the first person die from it in the USA (a 23 week old baby) yes I am scared and if I have to stay at home to prevent it I'm gonna do it.

since the swine flu may have finally hit Tennessee, I've decided that keeping my daughter at home is best...she's 15 months old and i don't plan to take her out anywhere that there are a bunch of people so that she's not exposed to the swine flu
Edit: Sorry for everyone who thinks us parents are panicking but i'd rather be too protective then to lose my baby (it just killed a toddler in Houston)
Thank you Mel! I just learned of it today and am scared to death. I'm like you..i'd rather be safe then sorry.

Im awesome & that pisses you off said...

i think not obsessing about it is the best thing to do.
i know its a serious thing, but it reminds me of the SARS out break a few years back, where everyone was completely freaked out.
i dont think youre being mean. people really should wash their hands before touching a baby. and strangers should NEVER touch a baby.
its good to be cautious, but not obsess about it or go nuts about it

My in-laws think I'm being like that, too, but whatever - my girls already have a cold, so their immune systems are in overdrive trying to fight it.
How on earth are you being mean? By doing what you feel is best, as your baby's MOTHER, to keep your baby out of harm's way? Seriously, some people obviously think babies exist for their own amusement.
Anyway, my twin girls haven't left the house in about 3 days, and they're probably not going anywhere besides the front/backyard until this flu outbreak gets under control. I'm in TX, and it's scary to know a baby's already died in Houston from it :/ So I'm not taking chances.

You are completely NOT over reacting!!!! I have 14 month old son and I don't even want to imgine something horrible like that happening to him. I could careless about me...to an extent....but I do not want to have to see my little boy possibly .....! I can't even say the words. I am going to do whatever it takes to try and protect him from this Swine flu stuff. I have not heard of a case in NC, where I am at now, but I have already stocked up on all my perishables, diapers, and etc...enough for about 6 months. They have raised the pandemic scale to 5 out of 6!!! You do whatever you have to do to protect you and your family. If others get offended then tough. You do what you need to do!!! I don't know how bad this is going to get, but I am absolutely terrified and scared s***less over it. I may be panicking, but I would rather be safe than sorry!!! Stay safe over there in TN. Good luck to you!!!!

you are not supposed to put a face mask on your baby, so if you are taking her out, you must cover her with a blankie...
you must wash her hands often, and yours before you touch her if you have gone outside your house, if you are staying in, and people coming in your house, you should tell them to wash their hands (up to the elbow) and face.
open your windows and let air flow, also, let the sun into your house, this is the best thing you can do.
use lysol if any of her toys go outside the house. when you come in to your house (or husband for example), change your clothes and if you can, have a shower.
there are 99 confirmed cases in mexico, and 91 in the us. please dont think that this is just happening in mexico.
if you are still nursing, you MUST desinfect your breasts before feeding your baby.

I am not usually germ phobic but am germ conscious and am a little concerned since I am expecting between today and next Tuesday (when I get induced). We just moved to TN from CA so my family is flying out from CA and I am worried they may catch something while flying...in this case swine flu. I am not sure how to protect my newborn without being super overprotected. I am going to talk with my doctor and pediatrician to see what they recommend and may possibly limit visitors until this epidemic passes!
