I was wondering what would happen if there was a bird flu pandemic. I have this friend who can make up weird stories sometimes, and she told me that they were going to lock us in our houses and only vaccinate people from 19-35 years old. I need some good advice and a few more information about this swine flu. When will it stop spreading all over the world? It is already spreading and I want it to stop before my pen pal go to Mexico. How long will it take it to stop and be gone? Why swine flu? Why do they call it? I don't get it about swine flu. I know it could kill people and it is not to become cured but why is it spreading? I know I'm being silly, but my boyfriend might have swine flu as he went over to a friends house whose Mum has it. So if he has got it when will he start to get sick? And what are the chances of dying from Swine Flu? Is it any higher than normal flu? I've been told if you have Asthma it is worse for you and he has it which is why i'm worried. My friend works at a cancer clinic, and they have been advised to send any people who come in for treatment for testing if they have flu like symptoms. Since the treatment and in some cases the type of cancer causes "flu-like symptoms" in at least 80% of cancer patients, her department has been sending the majority of their patients to get tested.

I started with a small tickle in my throat this morning and now I have a complete soar throat with slight nausea after taking some daytime Tylenol. Just wondering because it has been said that the whole swine flu thing is just a media hype to distract us all from taxes, global warming and all the other problems our little world seems to have these days. I know people have died and that's bad but is it as serious as the media are claiming or are we just panicking over something fairly mild?
I'm not sure if it's just a cold or the virus but I'm having horrible headaches, tired, coughing, sore throat, body ache, and having a horrible time breathing. I do have asthma which makes the breathing a lot worse. Just want some opinions on what to do. I just got back from Mexico and I think it is the best time to go down there! We had a group of 15 go down there and not one of us got sick . You could have the chance to have the beach all to yourself because no one is traveling. Good luck its the best vacation I have ever had(and I go on vac alot!)

okay so ive heard about the swine flu in mexico b4, but today at school we got notices and like warnings about the "pandemic" saying that we have to be careful because its in the bay area in south CA where our community lives. so, im probably overreacting and stuffs, but does that mean its going to spread between hundreds of people and everything!?!?!? My question is like how to they determin if a person is sick enough to be admitted to a hospital if they have H1N1. I know lots of people who have it now but no one is been sent to the hospital, is it just there symptoms? Or can they test if its bad enough? I am 56 F. Should i start using the surgeons mask from chennai airport or after i reach Brussels or in NY ? Should i use it throught the flight. With no vaccine in site, wouldn't it be BETTER for most of us (who are healthy) to catch the H1N1 virus now? That way IF this outbreak follows the pattern of the flu outbreak in 1918, those who got the mild sickness now would be immune from the second, stronger wave later - which did most of the killing?

I know this seems like a strange question and I assure you, I'm not a total hypochondriac but I was just watching TV and saw all of the adults in Mexico walking around in surgical masks and wondered what they are using on the babies, infants and toddlers? I have an 11 month old and I know for sure she wouldn't tolerate anything being on her face.

With now outbrakes in the United Kingdom, this disease is starting to really catch peoples attention. It's spreading fast and we have no cure and scientists are really letting alot of information out yet.
My question is what do you think the conseqences of swine flu will be?. This maybe a little early to speculate but with recent outbrakes I think we can have a decent prediction. No silly answers please anybody that does is very immature.

I just got a brochure at school today about how in 3 months there will be a long wave of of it and we'll be without vaccine for 6 months after it begins. Supposedly will be as bad as in 1918. There'll be school closures and an order to stay home for certain time. Need to be stocked up on supplies for AT LEAST 2 weeks. It's scary!
Hi, I am really worried about swine flu and I can't get Tamiflu anywhere so I was wondering if I exposed myself to it now, would my body build up the antibodies so I'd be immune when the global pandemic really kicks off? I'm not actually planning on CONTRACTING it. I was just wondering, if I told my boss I didn't feel well, and I thought I had swine flu (so I could do something a lot more interesting than WORK on a given night), how many times I could use that excuse. Four days? Five?

Just recently my brothers and sisters are having fears of the swine flu and they are afraid of going back to school they are scared because they can get the flu like disease called the swine flu.
Is there a way for my brothers and sisters as well as niece and nephews to protect themselves during school hours since there's a chance of an outbreak otherwise the best thing i can think of is not sending them to school until i make sure its been contain.

It's essentially because there are varying opinions of the disease. Health care professionals and their respective organizations, will almost always take a more negative approach to things. For example, the WHO (World Health Organization) has determined this to be a level 5 pandemic on a scale of one to six. The main reason that the disease is not being taken seriously across the board is due to the fact that many people simply view it as a flu. In reality, it is a combination of Swine Flu, Avian (Bird) Flu and Conventional Flu. This is where the lethality comes into play because humans have never been exposed to such a disease.
The reason Avian Flu didn't turn into a pandemic was because it was unable to efficiently mutate to become communicable between people. However, this new form of Swine Flu IS communicable between humans.

I don't know but i heard if you have a cold or cough or something like that it could be a swine flu. I live in Canada and i don't know if i might have it because i have a cold and its been 2 days now, one of the side of my nose is blocked so i can only breathe with the other and its really runny sometimes. If you look up the history of Swine flu , it has been around for about 50 years or so. And some of the outbreaks originated in the United States. I guess Americans are the cleanest people in the world. We don't have a gang problem, corruption, bad economics, diseases, college student running around doing inappropriate behavior. I'm glad to be American, but we can just put the blame on other countries all the time.

• H1N1 is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people. If we get sick, CDC recommends that we stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
• Early detection and treatment are key to stopping any outbreak of influenza / H1N1 / swine flu. WHO guidance calls for isolating the sick and blanketing everyone around them with antiviral drugs and symptom relief medicines such as Tamiflu.

It now appears that Influenza A (H1N1) can now be passed from humans to pigs - as apparently has happened in Canada. There are a few reports around that point to Bird Flu (H5N1) infecting pig populations without causing the pigs to exhibit any obvious symptoms.
I'm wondering two things here: 1. Has influenza passed from Humans to Pigs easily in the past and 2. What are the chances of the new influenza A (H1N1) and bird flu (H5N1) combining in a pig and creating something new?

does this mean i cant go now because of the swine flu?

I'm planning on going to Disney World later this month and I know the swine flu is still spreading a lot and even there are some cases in Florida of the swine flu. Disney World is always filled with millions of people and lots of people go there at the same time. There's a lot of kids there and some schools are closed and I guess it had to do with how kids don't always take care of themselves properly. Well you know many kids go to Disney World. Should I be worried about getting the swine flu if I go there later this month?

The statue of Edgar Hernandez is located in the central park of La Gloria, a pig-farming village in the mountains where some people claimed the virus originated due to the big pig ranch in the town.
Although many town residents had become ill, it was 5 year old Edgar Hernandez who became the first person diagnosed with the illness and survived after taking antibiotics. The statue will be a symbol of hope for all those that become ill from the virus.

I just hear almost everywhere I go "Swine flu! 100 people dead in mexico! Several infected in US!" I mean, I know it could possibly become a worldwide plague, but it's not that likely. But I would just like to know, what do you think about this whole swine flu 'epidemic'? Do you think it'll actually become a plague, or are people making a big deal about it?
