Swine Flu Info Blog

My family is planning to go to parts of China (Beijing, Hong Kong, Hainan Island etc.) and maybe Japan or Taiwan this summer. With the swine flu outbreak, would you still go or cancel the vacation?

Question Details: I am a public health -epidemiology PhD student. I would like to research pandemic preparedness but I am having a hard time fitting epidemiology into the topic of pandemic preparedness. This is not ‘microevolution,’ you know, it’s not an existing species of flu virus that adapted from swine to humans; it mutated and has evolved so that it can be transmitted from human to human. This would be the ‘macroevolution’ that creationists claim is not possible, so are they denying the swine flu or something irrational like that?

I think it's inadvisable to get pregnant at this moment of global economic uncertainty and overpopulation. But if that isn't going to stop you, swine flu shouldn't either. There's always some kind of infectious disease going around to strike fear in the hearts of the timid, whether it's SARS or HIV or swine flu or MRSA or hemorrhagic fever or... well, you get the idea.

Compared to other outbreaks of diseases, I think that Mexico acted rather quickly in reporting to world nations even if they were unable to contain it effectively.

Since it has not been found in any Swine to date.

do you think a significant whipout of the worlds population is the best chance to save this planet from human destruction, polution, so on and so on? sad but i think it is....and if u believe it to be true ..what percentage of people need to go? i think about 60% at least...just me.

People try to blame, complain and ignore in regards to issues like the genocidal events occurring in Burma but are we all not to blame? Do we not allow things like this to happen?

The Swine flu is airborne, it is worse than SARS in Asia in 2003.
People start to pass away in US.
WHO is working retrospectively.
What should we do?

So of course i've been watching the news, but not very steadily. Can someone explain how this sudden outbreak happened or where it started and what's the threat of it? Maybe how it spreads and if the Swine Flu and the H1N1 Virus are two different things, explain the difference please and no jokes either, i'd just like to know all about it out of curiosity.
