Mexico does not have the health care programs we do here in the US or over the world. Mexico also is overpopulated therefore more contact. And most cases you wont die, BUT the virus can mutate into something far worse, so dont think its no big deal. And you know whats funny mexico just had an earthquake x] sucks for them ..

the people in the more developed world have a high alert, good experts and better hygienic facilities to get rid of the swine flu. it's a shame that the poor country suffer the most due of lack of finance and resources support for the out break of severe flu

It is a matter of time. Australia has 70 cases and New Zealand had a class & teacher return from Mexico with it. The Tamiflu pills will give protection. This flu is a combination of bird, pig and human viruses which is what makes it so bad.
The poor will suffer as they wont be able to afford the pills to save them.

good question the best way to answer this question is to compare the two.
you living in america if you run a 101 fever you will go to the doctor or if you vomit a couple of times or if your throat is sore you will go see the doctor. we are more readily going to the docter
now in mexico you would ONLY go to the doctor (generally) if you had most or all of these symtoms.
so the seeing of the doctor is a big thing when it comes to different nations

People are likely to die if it becomes a pandemic, the predicted death toll the last I heard is said to about around 120Million worldwide.
Anti viral drugs aren't available for this, because it's a strain A virus, which means it's constantly changing, making it difficult to treat, however I believe vaccinations will become available (Before too long).
The reason people haven't died yet, is because the virus hasn't infected many people yet, there's probably less than 100 confirmed cases outside of Mexico at the moment. So don't worry too much :)

I would not call Mexico a poor country. If you have money you live really well and have access to medical services worthy of the best anywhere. Also, it is easier for a foreign trained doctor to recognize the symptoms and prescribe treatment than those who don't.
The health authorities are really doing their job, and the people who died actually made it to hospitals in the final stages of the infection, when nothing could be done. These people were either misdiagnosed or they self medicated. You don´t need to live in a developed nation to act stupid.
What is really worrisome is that this thing is beginning to sound like the 1918 flu pandemic. Strangely enough, some research was being done since 2005, where researchers took tissue from an exhumed victim in Alaska. In 2006 a lead coffin was also opened in the USA. The victim was known to have died from the 1918 flu. The virus genes were mapped and it bears strong similarities with the current one.
It did not originate in Mexico. There was a swine flu outbreak in 1976 in the USA. The vaccine caused some strange syndrome and was discontinued. In Mexico, the first outbreak happened in Veracruz and later in Oaxaca, during Easter Week. Both are popular tourist spots and it is not unlikely many visitors come to Mexico because recession has turned it into a bargain spot for those wishing to go on vacation.
What really worries me is that this bug kills people between the ages of 20-50, like the 1918 strain, and it kills due to the body´s autoimmune response, where the body literally attacks itself.

At this point it seems obvious it originated somewhere close to Mexico City, possibly due to poor sanitary conditions at pig farms. I think what has people really on edge is that Mexico has confirmed less than 2000 cases, and Mexican officials are suspecting at this point that up to 149 people have died of this new flu. Another scary thing is that like Spanish flu, it is prevalent among young and healthy adults.
That would be a 7.5% death rate... In reality there are most likely thousands upon thousands of cases that have gone unreported or otherwise "unconfirmed".

This isn't really an answer but an insight.
My sister and niece went to Mexico in January and said they hospital conditions there were definitely not the best. This may not be the case in all hospitals, or all cities. She saw things for herself and heard other things from the missionaries who are in and out of Mexico all the time. My sister said that hospitals only have enough room for patients so family waits outside for days.
The biggest thing she noted is that in most cases is that the hospital staff gives the family a list of the medicine the patient needs and the family is suppose to go out and buy it and bring it back to the hospital. Many times they can't afford the medicine. A teen boy died of appendicitis because the family couldn't afford his meds.

Mexico doesnt have good medical care to help those who catch it.
this is why many are dying there. a total of 150 have died currently in mexico.
The media is freaking out because of this sudden virus.
they want to know how it started also.
and they are freaking out because its deadly to many people in poor countries.
it then spreaded to the usa.
60 people have got infected by it here.
but luckily. they all survived.
they survived because there is good medical care in the usa.
and the usa has the treatment for it,
